Darrel was born in Seguin, Texas in November of 1960. The youngest of 6, he was raised in the small town of Stockdale. Darrel attended Southwestern Assemblies of God College where he met his wife, Sandy. They adopted two siblings, Michelle and Daniel, 5 and 2 ½ at the time - now 29 and 28. Darrel and Sandy have adopted four grandchildren: D.J., Thomas, Lain, and Deci. The Phillips also have four other granddaughters, Ayana, Jessica, Alyha, and Angelina; Cierra and Hailey are their great nieces and Nicholas is their nephew.
Darrel earned the degree Bachelor of Science in Business Management from LeTourneau University. He later attended Brite Divinity School at TCU, receiving the degree Master of Divinity.
Darrel’s first appointment was at Elm Mott United Methodist Church in June 1999. Throughout his ministry, Pastor Phillips has been responsible for the leadership of the United Methodist Churches of Speegleville, Line Street/Covington, and most recently, Harker Heights. All of these churches flourished in the areas of attendance and spiritual growth during Darrel’s tenure.
Darrel observes that his gifts seem to fall in the area of being a “people person.” “I love the Lord and I love people. I believe everyone has been made worthy of God’s love, through the sacrifice of Christ and His resurrection. I believe that we must not only have faith to get things done, but we must act on our faith to reap the harvest as ‘faith without works is dead.’” Finding his motivation in the smiles of others, he does not fear challenges.
“I am really excited about all God is doing at FUMC Eastland and Ranger. I’m glad to be a part of it. You’re all in my prayers!” said Phillips.
